Large input voltage range and stable output voltage 9 Volts with an accuracy of 4% ensures that the module is very well established as a stabilizer in systems powered by batteries. For example, when the required voltage of 9 V to a system powered by seven batteries NiMh that is fully charged will reach level of 11 V, nominally 8.4 V, a discharged only 7.4 V.

    

In a typical application the system can provide the current up to 300 mA (details in the further part of the description). The regulator is equipped with a temperature protection, but not protection against short-circuit and reverse connection of the supply.

 

 

Insights

The module has four output:

  • VIN - input voltage range 2.5 V - 18 V. for the lower module are not included above, may damage the system.
  • GND - the ground.
  • VOUT - the output voltage is 9 V.
  • SHDN - shutdown system - input low means that the system goes into a low power state. Conclusion it is pulled up to VIN through a resistor 10 kΩ, which is enabled by default.

 

Connectors respectively signed on the Board. Terminal pitch is 2.54 mm (goldpin connectors). The module can be mounted on the contact plate, to connect with wires or solder in a special printed circuit Board.

 

Serviceability

Efficiency is defined as the ratio input power to output power (Pout/Pin). This parameter is of particular importance when running on battery power when it is important that the system worked as long as possible on a single charge. The efficiency of the Converter depends on the strength of the current flow and the input voltage (chart below). The average is at 70-80 %, which allows to use almost the maximum energy from the battery.

Output current

The maximum current that can provide a system depends in particular on: the input voltage and operating temperature. The dependence of the maximum current from the input voltage shown in the figure below. In the case when the operating temperature reaches a too high value, the module automatically turns off the power.

Jumping voltages (pins)

In electronic circuits, the current run can lead to the emergence of so-called pins, that is, sharp voltage spike to a value above a certain level. If the amplitude of the pin exceeds the permissible value of the controller, it can fail. Therefore, if the system will be powered with a voltage of 11 Volts and the load will have high inductance, we highly recommend you wlutowanie capacitor with a nominal value of 33 UF / 25 V or higher, as close as possible to the system between VIN and GND.
