Description

The sensor is based on a system TSSP77038 company Vishay - infrared receiver, operating at a frequency of 38 kHz. The sensor in combination with diode IR LEDS with managing the system time NE555 generates the full module distance sensor with digital output. The layout to work properly you need the voltage range: 3.3 V to 5V. The module is available in versions of detected objects at a distance up to 30 cm or 60 cm, so it can be used as a sensor to detect obstacles in the minisumo competition. The performance of the sensor depends on many external factors, such as the size and shape of the object, the type of surface to be measured, etc.

Connection method

The module has four pins: the ground (GND), power (VDD), digital output (OUT) and pin code that is responsible with the inclusion of led "outgoing" (ENABLE).

The power of the sensor is applied on pin VDD must be in the range from 3.3 V to 5 V. the Voltage is below 5V reduces the power of the LEDs in the Outbox, it also reduces the range of the sensor. To use the module in full when the voltage of 3.3 V, you must run a jumper wire made through the use of additional side of the radiator (photo nearby).

The output of the sensor (OUT) the digital signal is by default pulled up to the supply voltage (a high - logic unit). At a time when the sensor detects an object, the output state will change to low (logical zero), this fact would alarm the red LED lights up.

Output ENABLE is used to control LEDs "outgoing" IR. If disabling the transmitter will not be necessary, you can leave the pin not connected, because by default it is pulled to the supply voltage, making the led attached. Transmitter status indicates green led lit when plugged in.

All four outputs have a standard distance between the popular strap goldpin is 2.54 mm (0.1"). This allows you in simple way to fix the module on the contact plate, or connected to the device using wires.

Change sensor parameters

Mounted on the side of the receiver potentiometer is used to adjust the frequency of the IR transmitter. The measurement range can be optimized by appropriate setting of the regulator. The easiest way to configure this setting is to observe the behavior of an output of the sensor while turning the potentiometer knob.

Limitations

  • The sensor has a digital output. This means that can provide information whether the object was in the range of measurement without an accurate distance, which is
  • Sensor performance depends on the type accordingly of the surface and shape of the object.
  • The sensor can be released through a strong light environment (for example, a very bright lamp).
  • Several sensors used at the same time may cause harmful interference to each other.

Left oscylogram output from the sensor to the deposition of strong light (bottom light is the strongest). Right oscylogram output, while the object is on the border of the detection threshold.

Scheme

The module includes the necessary components, passive for proper operation of the sensor.
