The device is microprocessor-controlled. The maximum charging current is equal to3.8 A. The charger constantly monitors the voltage of the battery, when it is fully charged it enters a holding mode, and if a drop in voltage is detected it starts the charging process again. Very useful features are alsoautomatic desulphation and reactivation ofextremely discharged batteries. It also has a"winter" modethat allows charging batteries at very low ambient temperatures.

The course of intelligent charging:

  • STAGE 1: DIAGNOSTICS:analysis of the battery, its state of charge and the correctness of the connections between the battery and the charger
  • STAGE2: DE-SULPHURIZATION: Identification of the battery with sulphate, pulsed charging with low voltage and high current allows the removal of sulphate from the battery plates, so that the initial capacity is restored
  • STAGE 3:SLOW START: checks that the battery is not damaged and can absorb the charging current (prevents charging a damaged battery); if the battery is not damaged starts charging gradually increasing the intensity of the charging current
  • STAGE 4: BASIC CHARGING:charge with the maximum current of constant intensity automatically regulated according to the state of battery charge, until 80% of battery capacity is reached
  • STAGE 5: FINALCHARGING: charging with a decreasing current and constant voltage until reaching 100% of the battery capacity
  • STAGE6: ANALYSIS:the battery charge test lasting approximately 2 minutes - if after stopping the charge the battery charge level does not decrease, the charging process is finished
  • STAGE7: MAINTAINING:maintaining the charge of the battery pack at the maximum level by charging it with a constant voltage
  • STAGE8: PULSE:monitoring of the battery voltage and maintaining an optimal charge at a level of 95-100% of capacity by pulses of the charging current

Microprocessor control of the battery charging process

Classic transformer chargers usually carry out the charging process continuously and very often have no built-in protection against overcharging. In contrast to such designs, the SBC-61238 charger, controlled by a built-in microprocessor, performs multi-stage charging, which is faster and more secure than that of conventional chargers. As a result, there is no need to supervise the operation of the charger, and the charged battery retains its efficiency for a very long time.
