A laptop charged from a solar cell?

Renewable energy has many advantages. Among the most important is the fact that access to it is unlimited and it is inexhaustible. While solutions such as geothermal energy require large investments, wind and to a greater extent solar energy are available in a very simple way. This is perfectly proved by the solar panels offered in our store by PiJuice. The smallest of them has dimensions of only 380x260x25 mm and weight of only 390 g. So it is not a problem to take this portable solar battery on a trip. PiJuice is designed primarily to power Raspberry Pi microcomputer and PiJuice HAT overlay. However, its capabilities do not end there. Thanks to two USB outputs (5V) and an internal smart-power chip, you can even use the solar panel to power a smartphone or a camera.

When the car battery fails

The previously mentioned PiJuice solar cells are recommended for powering mobile devices. You can connect up to two of them at the same time. However, what to do if not a small smartphone, but the car battery discharges during the trip? In this case, it is worth choosing folding solar panels PowerFilm. In our offer you will find solar panels with dimensions from 55,9x53,3 cm to 1,207x1,308 m. Their power varies from 5 to 60 W! Interestingly, even the largest of these models falls far short of the massive solar panels used to power homes. Its weight is only 1.45 kg, and when folded, you can successfully stow it in the trunk, as the packed solar panel is only 33.6x17.8 cm.

How does the foldable solar panel work?

Scientists are constantly racing to develop smaller, thinner and less visible solar cells. So far, the principle of their operation remains the same and is based on the photovoltaic phenomenon. It leads to the conversion of solar energy into electricity, and at the micro-scale this process involves the movement of electrons in a semiconductor. The fact that this phenomenon can also be used in thin, car cover-like and relatively inexpensive foldable solar panels makes energy from the sun available on a daily basis.
