The world of microcontrollers and portable microcomputers is constantly evolving. The establishment of the Italian company called Arduino was a true milestone. Today every enthusiast of programmable electronics has heard about Arduino. Arduino and Raspberry are the two most well-known and recommended brands of electronics producers. Arduino enjoys great user reviews due to the fact that it offers a lot of variety. First you need to buy the main Arduino printed circuit board (PCB). Then - you don't have to, but it's worth it! - buy Arduino Shields - special overlays with additional amenities. There are dozens of overlays that are used for various purposes. With their help you will build a running gear for the robot, equip the project with wireless communication (radio waves, Wi-Fi via Ethernet, Bluetooth), as well as components for further expansion. The latter include pin extenders, which are used in order to increase the technical parameters of the project!

What is an extender?
The possibilities of versatile use of popular Arduino systems are largely due to their modular design. The microcomputer programmer starts designing the system by selecting the main unit (main module) equipped with a control microprocessor, which, depending on the required functions and needs, retrofits with external accessories and expansion modules.
When creating larger constructions, you will need to purchase additional modules. They will increase the voltage resistance of the device, they will be a convenient platform for connecting more and more subsequent modules.
The most common extension module of the Arduino Shield is the pin expander. It is a module in the form of a printed circuit board or electronic circuit connected to the mainboard pins. The connection between the Arduino motherboard also depends on the type of Arduino Shield overlay, UART, SPI or I2C communication buses are often used.
Arduino expanders – one of the biggest extensions you can imagine
Arduino Shield expander is an extension of possibilities in Arduino systems. Thanks to its diversity, it will make it easier for you to design and adapt your microcomputer to your needs.
The simplest expander for Arduino is a board equipped with screw connectors. This design makes connecting wires to the main unit's inputs and outputs (motherboard) much easier. The connection strength is also greater.
The screw connection module integrates with the main unit through the pins. If you want to increase the current efficiency of the outputs, a module with relays can be helpful, which you can control devices with supply voltage up to 250 VAC and switching currents up to 15 A. For Arduino applications in the area of measurements, Arduino Shield equipped with clamp and screw connectors is available. Then you can easily connect sensors to such equipment - e.g. temperature, humidity or pressure sensors, as well as resistors for calibrating the measuring channel.
On the technical level, interface handling deserves attention. The Arduino pin expander can also support many interfaces such as SPI (LCD, LED display modules), IIC (ICD display modules, I / O modules), Micro SD, SD, TLC (LED controller). As you can see - there are really many possibilities!
Expand your project or… create your very own Arduino Shield!
If you are a fan of robotics, use the Arduino expander to control drives with motors with 12 V output voltage and current efficiency even over 1 A. If you are building a larger project, use the Arduino expander to be able to install even more other Arduino covers (Arduino Shields) !
However, one of the most important advantages is that some products give you the opportunity to create an Arduino overlay for yourself (e.g. Proto Shield)! Do you have needs that go beyond the available Arduino Shield modules? No problem! Build your own expander. Adjust its options to your needs. Now no project will be limited!
In Botland store you will find pin expanders in the form of printed circuit boards equipped with all connectors for connecting them to the main unit. You can create your own Arduino Shield on the printed circuit board.
